It's Time to Groove
Many of you know that I DJ occasionally, many of you don't. These past few weeks, I have been prepping music for the open of a new disco-blend themed nightclub in Columbus. This club is called Good Night John Boy and it is set to open this Saturday, September 2nd. The name is a reference to the show, "The Waltons" from 1972.
The prep work is stressful, but super fun when it all comes together. First, I have to sort the music that I have. Since it is a disco themed club, I have about 600 old songs to sift through. I sort the songs into several different folders. The folders are as follows
Classic HIT: The most popular old songs
Classic Regular: Regular old songs
Disco House Mashups: Mashups of old songs and new drum beats
Original Disco House: Modern house songs (like Purple Disco Machine)
There are a few more folders that I have, but those are the four main ones that I use use. The prep work takes up 90% of the work for DJing. Some of the older songs are very quiet, so I have to go through them and increase the volume and instrument levels. Some of them are rush and drag the tempo, so I go in and stabilize everything just a little.
I'm a little nervous for the grand opening, but I think I'll do fine. I now just have to pick out an outfit for the event. I play Sunday from 10pm to 1am, for those who are interested.
